COURSE DESCRIPTION

Measurement can be one of the most interesting and useful topics in the elementary curriculum. Children and adults alike use measurement ideas in their everyday lives, and questions involving measurement can be identified in virtually every subject taught during the school day. As students study measurement they apply concepts from number and geometry, and thus have opportunities to gain new insights and discover new connections within and between these mathematical topics.

This course is aimed at preparing students for teaching the concepts/ topics included. Emphasis must therefore be placed on the development of the concepts. A methodological approach to teaching topics will be used to teach content to develop mathematical meaning, integration within and across subject areas, career infusion opportunities, and other applicably linkages. Appropriate technology software should be use for simulation and mathematical modeling for foundation and enrichment learning.
